Cruel Sister Full Lyrics
[00:01.54] There lived a lady by the North Sea shore
[00:06.05] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[00:10.26] Two daughters were the babes she bore
[00:14.25] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[00:18.94] As one grew bright as is the sun
[00:23.43] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[00:28.06] So coal black grew the elder one
[00:32.76] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[00:37.27] A knight came riding to the lady's door
[00:50.54] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[00:54.93] He'd traveled far to be their wooer
[00:59.47] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[01:03.76] He courted one with gloves and rings
[01:08.34] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[01:12.27] But he loved the other above all things
[01:16.46] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[01:39.73] Oh, sister will you go with me
[01:44.27] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[01:48.47] To watch the ships sail on the sea?
[01:52.93] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[01:57.77] She took her sister by the hand
[02:02.69] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[02:06.52] And led her down to the North Sea strand
[02:11.27] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[02:24.47] And as they stood on the windy shore
[02:28.61] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[02:32.84] The dark girl threw her sister over
[02:37.16] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[02:42.07] Sometimes she sank, sometimes she swam
[02:46.30] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[02:50.57] Crying, "Sister, reach to me your hand"
[02:55.45] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[02:59.66] Oh sister, sister, let me live
[03:03.73] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[03:08.37] And all that's mine I'll surely give
[03:12.85] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[03:17.37] Your own true love that I'll have and more
[03:21.54] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[03:25.86] But thou shalt never come ashore
[03:30.54] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[03:35.26] And there she floated like a swan
[03:39.66] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[03:43.62] The salt sea bore her body on
[03:48.33] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[04:10.55] Two minstrels walked along the strand
[04:14.76] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[04:19.07] And saw the maiden float to land
[04:23.63] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[04:28.04] They made a harp of her breastbone
[04:31.94] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[04:36.43] Whose sound would melt a heart of stone
[04:41.05] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[04:45.86] They took three locks of her yellow hair
[04:49.64] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[04:53.95] And with them strung the harp so rare
[04:58.16] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[05:20.69] They went into her father's hall
[05:25.43] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[05:29.35] To play the harp before them all
[05:33.97] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[05:38.61] But when they laid it on a stone
[05:42.47] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[05:46.53] The harp began to play alone
[05:50.95] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[06:04.47] The first string sang a doleful sound
[06:08.74] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[06:12.87] The bride her younger sister drowned
[06:16.95] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[06:22.05] The second string as that they tried
[06:26.17] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[06:30.64] In terror sits the black-haired bride
[06:35.07] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[06:39.53] The third string sang beneath their bow
[06:43.48] Lay the bent to the bonnie broom
[06:48.08] And surely now her tears will flow
[06:52.67] Fa la la la la la la la la la
[06:58.65]
