[00:01.61] 15 years ago Lee Hays and I wrote a song and we never expected it will be widely sung [00:07.28] Perhaps me and a few more [00:10.17] But lo and behold, two years ago a young rocker and roller made a record of it [00:16.07] The song is all around the world now [00:19.37] Now the interesting thing is that there is not only two ways of singing this song [00:24.53] There's about five or six different ways [00:28.30] But I found that they nearly all harmonize with each other [00:32.93] Now there is a moral here somewhere [00:35.91] It means that you can sing it the way I wrote it or sing it the way somebody else changed it [00:40.42] Or the way somebody else changed it [00:42.53] And the all harmonize together [00:45.14] If I had a hammer, I'd hammer out the morning (hammer in the evening) [00:52.45] I'd hammer out the evening, all over this land [00:56.81] I'd hammer out danger, I'd hammer out a woman [01:02.17] I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land [01:13.38] If I had a bell, I'd ring it in the morning [01:19.16] I'd ring it in the evening, all over this land [01:25.59] I'd ring out danger, I'd ring out a warning [01:31.87] I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land [01:41.66] If I had a song, I'd sing it in the morning [01:48.09] I'd sing it in the evening, all over this land [01:54.25] I'd sing out danger, I'd sing out a warning [02:00.02] Sing out war, sing out love [02:03.22] I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land [02:10.78] Well, I got a hammer and I got a bell [02:16.38] And I got a song to sing all over this land [02:24.44] It's the "hammer" of justice, it's the "bell" of freedom [02:30.56] It's a song about love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land [02:44.55]
