K-Pop (Korean Pop)
K-pop is a genre of popular music originating in South Korea. It is influenced by styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots.
Origins & History
Modern K-pop emerged with Seo Taiji and Boys in 1992. The late 1990s saw idol groups like H.O.T. The 2000s brought TVXQ and Girls' Generation. The 2010s global wave featured BTS, BLACKPINK, and EXO. K-pop is characterized by idol training systems, music videos, and devoted fandoms.
